Caravan Site Review: Fields End Water, The Paddock, Doddington

I can hardly believe it myself, but we found ourselves back at Fields End Water for a spontaneous four-day getaway last weekend (early April - 2025). If you’ve been following along, you’ll know we’ve visited a few times before, but this time we snagged Pitch No. 41 in the Paddock.

For those in the know, it’s one of the more private spots tucked away at the far end of the Paddock.

Arrival

From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Lian, who was all smiles, super friendly, and incredibly helpful. Even with a busy check-in desk and a phone ringing off the hook, she took the time to show us to our pitch and give us a quick rundown of the site.

Pitch

We picked a fully serviced grass pitch in The Paddock, complete with astroturf for parking the caravan—such a great spot! This pitch is one of the larger, more spacious ones in the Paddock, which we loved.

That said, reversing the caravan onto it was a bit of a challenge since there’s not a ton of space directly in front of the pitch for both the caravan and car (together ours is over 42 ft long!). Any tips or tricks for navigating tight spots like this?

After parking up, we unhitched and got to grips with the new metered Electric Hook Up (EHU). We weren’t entirely sure how much electricity was included in the rate or when it became chargeable, but over four days, it came to about £5.00. With energy prices climbing these days, that doesn’t seem too bad, does it? What’s been your experience with metered hookups?

Facilities

The facilities at Fields End Water are always pretty immaculate, and I know they were rejuvenated last year with a coat of paint and new vinyl wall panels, however on this occasion I felt they were not quite as bright and sparkly as usual.

(I know the site has been busy renovating lots of other areas including the bin storage area, new metered electrical hooks up and adding a new bar next to the cafe so they have been busy elsewhere improving the facilities).

Nearby

Over the past eighteen months, we’ve found ourselves visiting this area quite a bit, and honestly, we’ve grown to love the charm of Doddington and Wimblington.

One of our favourite spots has to be the local fish and chip shop in Doddington. The staff are super friendly, and the food? Always fresh, piping hot, and absolutely delicious. If you’re in the area, we highly recommend stopping by. (View Menu)

We stopped by The Anchor in Wimblington too for a Sunday Roast, and let me tell you—it did not disappoint. If you're staying at Fields End Water, pop by reception and see if they have a 10% discount voucher for The Anchor. It’s totally worth it if you’re thinking of heading over!

The roast dinner was generously portioned, freshly prepared, and absolutely delicious. And the homemade sticky toffee pudding? Fab. (I shared it with Lisa, though I was tempted to keep it all to myself!) Have you been there before?

Summary

Our recent trip to Field End Water wasn’t the quietest we’ve had—there was some construction going on as the team put the finishing touches on the new outdoor bar (which, by the way, looks like it’s going to be amazing!).

Plus, there were a few dogs in the area who were a little more vocal than usual (we’re dog owners too, so we get it!). And the local farmer seemed intent on firing his bird scarers every twenty minutes too!

But honestly, none of that stopped us from having a wonderfully restful stay. And the sunsets here are nearly always amazing. Believe it or not, we’ve already booked to come back in a few weeks! Have you been to Field End Water before?
