Caravan Site Review: Long Acres Touring Park, Leake - Travel Picks

Arrival

We took a trip to Long Acres Touring Park near Boston, another in the Tranquil Parks collection, in May this year. It was a last minute booking for three nights over a Bank Holiday weekend.

Weather en-route was awful but as we arrived the sunshine seemed to welcome us long enough to get pitched, although shortly after a downpour followed.

We were greeted upon arrival by Tracey, site owner operator with her husband John, and handed a key fob for access and directed to our pitch (no.20).

Pitch

The first thing that strikes you here is the site is long and narrow,  a three acres strip of land, planted with hundreds of trees either side to create privacy (and natural windbreakers).  Our pitch was almost at the very far end of the site and as we drove in we waved to all of the other caravaners and motorhomers already on site, passing the shower block en-route to our pitch.

I decided to reverse the caravan onto the pitch from a right angle and fortunately it went well and the caravan lined up perfectly with the space, side to side and front to back. My only observation here, the site is quite narrow so you might be better using your motor mover, if you have one, as I am not sure I'd have been able to reverse on so easily if the pitch directly opposite was occupied, due to the overall length of our car and twin-axle caravan together.

Each pitch offers a 10A EHU (Electric Hook Up), water and waste have to be managed with Aquarolls and Wastemasters and can be emptied and replenished at a nearby water/waste point.

Location

The site is a haven for an abundance of wildlife, perfect for sitting and watching as you sit outside your caravan or motorhome. It is also noticeably quiet and deserves the Tranquil Park accreditation. As we were setting up pitch we observed a Spitfire plane flying overhead from nearby RAF Coningsby (more of this later).

This site is perfectly located for touring the Lincolnshire countryside and seaside towns, which we did and enjoyed immensely. Something to be mindful of here though, the site is very, very rural and nearby convenience stores are located a short drive away (5-10 mins), so ensure you are well stocked on your essential supplies before settling down.

Also we noted on the route in we may have chosen the most rural route as the roads were very bumpy. We had forgotten to secure our microwave plate, which was smashed on the floor when we arrived, so choose your route in carefully.

That said we really enjoyed the peace and quiet of this site, so rural works if you are looking to get some peaceful rest. The site is also located close to lots of cycle routes and country walks. too.

Facilities

The shower block is situated midway down the length of the site and is a modern heated facility with showers, wc's and indoor washing facilities. A freezer. is also available to freeze ice blocks for cooler bags and boxes. A washing machine and tumble dryer are also available for use as well as an EV charging point. There is also a drive over service point available for motorhomes.

The facilities were always spotless when we used them. Our only observation here is, due to the layout of the site - which cannot be easily changed, it does feel a little bit like a 'walk of shame' each time you have to use the facilities as you pass each caravan or motorhome en-route to the facilities, but they are otherwise excellent.

The Dog Field is pretty and allows you to let your dog off lead which is nice. Due to the limitations of the site layout it is a little small but hey there are plenty of places to walk off site.

Site Owners

It seemed to us the owners of this site are very hands-on and available on site during your stay. They made us feel very welcome, stopping to chat at timely intervals and it was great getting to hear from them their journey since taking over this site in 2016, since which they have won lots of awards and accreditations.

Summary

If you are looking for somewhere to stay that is very rural and very quiet, Long Acres Touring Park is perfect for you. We really enjoyed our stay here and it provided us with some well earned rest.

Condolences

Very shortly after seeing the Spitfire in the sky we discovered it had crashed into a nearby field and the pilot, much to our dismay, was unfortunately killed.  Our thoughts and condolences are with the pilot's family and colleagues at nearby RAF Coningsby.
