Caravan Site Review: Stretton Lakes, Stretton, Oakham

Arrival

Getting to Stretton Lakes, close to Oakham in Rutland Leicestershire, is pretty easy. You’ll get a warm and friendly welcome at the reception before being shown to your pitch. If there aren’t any staff around, just head to your pitch on your own. It’s all pretty simple!

Pitch

We picked pitch no. 15, which is super close to the showers and restrooms. It's also just a stone's throw away from one of the four lakes if you're into fishing. A quick blind reverse onto the fully serviced pitch, unhook, connect the services, and we were all set to relax.

Sure, this is pretty standard wherever you go, but here, the pitch is nice and level, and the hookup points are slightly off-center, making it a breeze to connect everything. Plus, the views of the Rutland countryside are absolutely stunning!

Facilities

The on-site facilities include a part-time reception, a small shop for essentials, laundry, showers, and restrooms—simple but effective. There's no clubhouse like at the nearby Eye Kettleby Lakes, so if you're looking for a really quiet and peaceful place to stay, this is it. Plus, if you're into fishing, you’ve got four well-stocked lakes to choose from.

The shower and toilet facilities are advertised as 5-star, and honestly, they’re the nicest, cleanest, and most modern ones we've seen at any caravan park. Each room features a walk-in shower with two shower heads, a low-level WC, and a separate hand-wash basin. They're beautifully tiled and have heated floors, too. They're kept in impeccable condition and are even better than I've had in my own homes!

Rural

I’d definitely call this a rural spot. You’ll find wild geese, ducks, and moorhens wandering around the park, plus there are two local pubs nearby—one just a half-mile walk and the other a short drive away, and both have great reviews. If you're looking for a high-energy place, this isn’t it. But if you want a quiet and peaceful spot to unwind, this is perfect. We really loved it here!

Location

Stretton is super close to Greetham, home of the famous RamJam pub that Dick Turpin used to haunt. A real gem we found nearby was Hambleton Bakery and Shop, just a quick drive away. The menu may be short, but the food is top-notch! Stretton Lakes also has cozy log cabins and a holiday cottage to enjoy should you prefer.

In Summary

We’re loving it here! Even though it’s our first visit, the place has been perfect for us, so we decided to stay an extra night. The local area is friendly and interesting, and the food and service we've experienced everywhere has been fantastic. Highly recommend this stay!
