The Paddock: Fields End Water - Caravan Site Review - April 2024

We just arrived home from 6 nights at Fields End Water Caravan Park & Fishery, where we stayed in the Paddock on this our second visit, with new supersize fully serviced pitches. We experienced all kinds of weather, 4 seasons in one day on one occasion and finished the week with an aerial display by two Americal F15-e Planes in the sky from nearby military base, RAF Lakenheath.

The Paddock's Location and Accessibility

Fields End Water Caravan Park & Fishery: The Paddock is located in a beautiful and accessible area just as you arrive at the caravan park and is accessed, once checked in at reception, by a keypad barrier. We managed to get our twin-axle 8ft wide Coachman caravan through the entrance, with care, very easily.

The Paddock offers convenient access to the nearby shower and toilet block serving the main park and The Paddock. It is also located conveniently for reception, the on-site shop and the nearby cafe. The Paddock is relatively small in terms of number of pitches, only 19 with a mixture of hardstanding and grass pitches but each pitch is distanced nicely from the next so it feels very private but at the same time close enough to amenities to feel sociable.

The Paddock's Pitch Options

The Paddock offers a variety of pitch options to suit different preferences and budgets. There are eleven (11) fully-serviced grass pitches  and eight (8) fully serviced hard standing pitches priced at £28.00 per night off peak, £30.00 per night peak season, including electricity.

Having a fully serviced pitch allows you to hook up your electric, and to have constant running water to your caravan and with a dedicated grey waste point per pitch for dirty water. I must admit after 6 days with our caravan fully plumbed in like this we did not miss any comforts from home.

The Paddock's Surroundings

The Paddock at Fields End Water is surrounded by four fishing lakes and lots of walks (with dogs on lead) around the lakes and woodlands. Wildlife is in abundance including ducks, moorhens, rabbits and geese, all spotted during our stay.

We did hear one guest on another part of the caravan park (Waterside) complaining about the excessive Geese poo, but for us this was not an issue in the Paddock. We also feel that if you choose to enter the wildlife's natural habitat for any length of time it is no more than to be expected.

Dog owners including us made good use of the Off-Lead Dog filed nearby and as much as tried we couldn't get Ora to take on the dog 'jumps and slalom poles' . There are lots of nearby walks off-site which will take you across the local landscape and into the local pubs and shops, should you need them.

The Paddock: Our Recommendations

As we pulled out of The Paddock we both agreed we were sorry to be leaving. OK, we'd experienced 24 hours of very strong weather, during our 6 night stay, but this could have happened anywhere.

We have always found the reception staff, the wardens and the owner (on this trip) to be very welcoming, friendly and professional. A special mention must also go out to the lovely couple running the Lakeside Café on-site. We both enjoyed great tea, coffee and cooked meals on several occasions and some friendly, chatty banter.

We must also mention what felt like a private air display on the morning we were leaving, as two American Eagle F15-E flew overhead performing practice combat manouvres. Quite a sight and sound to finish our stay.

We decided that we really enjoyed our second stay at Fields End Water, perfect for some R&R!
